ByteDance is in discussions with Savvy Games Group to divest its Mobile Legends developer, Moonton Technology for around $6 billion to $7 billion, according to a report by Reuters. According to sources, the deal could conclude by the end of the current quarter with both parties reportedly agreeing on broad terms of the deal. Savvy Games did not comment on the matter. The news comes after reports in November 2025 when ByteDance was considering the divestment of its Shanghai-based unit. The company acquired the developer in 2021 and the proposed disposal could be a sign of ByteDance retreating from online games. Savvy Games is owned by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, the PIF, which has stakes in Nintendo, Capcom and Nexon, Take Two, Koei Tecmo and Activision Blizzard. The company’s revenue figures have been cited at around $230 million for certain segments, with the company reporting strong performance in esports. However, the company has not been able to reach synergies with ByteDance following its 2021 acquisition. For Savvy Games though, the move is part of the broader strategic push to transform Saudi Arabia a global hub for gaming and esports.
